| Waclaw Golonka /born in 1969 in Bielsko-Biała, Poland/
In 1993, he graduated from the Academy of Music in Krakow where he studied organ with Professor T. Nowak. In 1996, he finished his studies at Hochschule für Musik in Vienna where he studied organ with Professor H. Haselböck. Subsequently, he attended master courses led by world-renowned organ masters, such as J. Guillou, L. Lohmann, M. Schneider, M. Radulescu and L. Rogg.
He won the second main prize and a prize for the best performance of a Czech contemporary composition in the Prague Spring International Music Competition in 1994, the third prize in the Musica Sacra competition in Nuremberg in 1995, and won the UNISA competition in Pretoria, South Africa, in 1998, as well as awards for the best performance of J. S. Bach's trio sonata, for the best recital in the 3rd round, and the best performance of a romantic organ concerto with orchestra in the final round of the same competition.
Waclaw Golonka's repertoire covers the period from early baroque to the contemporary music. He gave concerts in many places across Europe (cathedrals in Chartres, Vienna, and Utrecht, the Municipal House in Prague, ORF in Vienna, Meistersingerhalle in Nuremberg, the National Philharmonic in Warsaw, the Albert Hall in Nottingham, and attended major festivals in London, Berlin, Copenhagen, Brno, Krakow, etc.). He also played in the USA (Museum of Art in Cleveland, Dayton, etc.), in South Africa (at universities in Pretoria, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, and Stellenbosch), as well as in Korea on the occasion of inauguration of a new organ made by Schuke Berliner Orgelbauverkstatt.
He made many recordings for Austrian Radio ORF in Vienna, Bavarian Radio, the Dutch Radio NOS Hilversum, and Czech Radio. His recitals at the Prague Spring International Music Festival were broadcast by many EBU member radio stations as part of Euroradio programme exchange. He also recorded music for TV Polsat and TV Katovice.
Waclaw Golonka is the artistic director of the J. S. Bach Festival which takes place in his hometown. He also teaches at a secondary music school in Prague and at the Academy of Music in Krakow. |
